Stripe, the payment processing company, has announced its plans to introduce global USDC payments this summer, marking its return to the cryptocurrency space after ending Bitcoin support over six years ago. John Collison, the co-founder and president of Stripe, revealed this upcoming feature during a presentation. He demonstrated how customers can connect their crypto wallets to Stripe and make instant payments using USDC on the Solana and Ethereum blockchains. Additionally, businesses utilizing Stripe will have the option to offer stablecoin payments to their customers. Stripe had previously supported Bitcoin payments but discontinued the feature in 2018 due to the cryptocurrency’s limited usability in transactions. In 2022, Stripe launched a range of tools and services specifically designed for cryptocurrency-focused businesses, including support for exchanges, wallets, and NFT marketplaces. Later, they introduced an embeddable fiat-to-crypto onramp for Web3 developers and a hosted onramp accessible at crypto.link.com. USDC, which aims to maintain a 1:1 peg to the US dollar, is currently the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization, trailing behind USDT.
