A recent report reveals that more than 100,000 individuals tuned in to a fraudulent SpaceX livestream that featured a blend of authentic footage and an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated voiceover mimicking Elon Musk.
As per findings and a snapshot from TrustNodes, over 125,000 people were captivated by a SpaceX livestream on a counterfeit YouTube channel that displayed a QR code soliciting cryptocurrency donations on the screen.
The QR code remained visible throughout the entire duration of the livestream.
Despite lacking a verification check mark, the YouTube channel @SpaceXFromElon boasts nearly 3 million subscribers. In contrast, the genuine SpaceX YouTube channel, @SpaceX, has 6.7 million subscribers and holds the coveted verification badge.
During the sham live stream, the AI-crafted Elon Musk voice not only extolled the virtues and potential profits of Bitcoin (BTC) but also implored viewers to scan the QR code in a bid to transform them into cryptocurrency magnates.
The prevalence of AI-generated crypto scam videos has surged alongside advancements in technology. Elon Musk frequently finds himself as a target, with the same channel employing a similar live stream tactic during a past eclipse event just two months prior.
Musk is widely recognized in the cryptocurrency community for his support of Dogecoin (DOGE).
At present, data on the number of viewers who complied with the QR code instruction remains unavailable.
