Gemini crypto exchange co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have each decided to make a significant impact on the upcoming presidential election by donating $1 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC) to Republican candidate Donald Trump.
In a detailed statement on the social media platform X, the billionaire brothers expressed their support for Trump, citing his positive stance on cryptocurrency as one of the key reasons for their donation and their intention to vote for him.
Cameron Winklevoss stated, “I have just donated $1 million in bitcoin (15.47 BTC) to Donald Trump and will be casting my vote for him in November. To sum it up – President Trump is: Pro-Bitcoin, Pro-Crypto, Pro-Business, and he will put an end to the Biden Administration’s war on crypto. Onward!”
Tyler Winklevoss further elaborated on their perception of the Biden Administration’s negative impact on the crypto industry. He highlighted the administration’s use of government agencies to undermine and hinder progress in the crypto space, accusing them of abusing their power for political gain at the expense of innovation and the American economy.
The Gemini co-founder also criticized the lack of regulatory clarity for the crypto industry, attributing it to the deliberate inaction of the SEC and FDIC under the Biden Administration. He argued that the lack of new rules for crypto assets allowed outdated regulations to persist, hindering the industry’s potential for growth and development.
Concluding their statement, the Winklevoss twins urged the crypto community to support Trump in the upcoming election, emphasizing the importance of sending a message to Washington that attacking the industry is not in their best interest.
Last year, the Gemini co-founders had predicted that Democrats would face backlash from voters due to their aggressive anti-crypto agenda.
