US Regulator Renegade Staffer Sparks Fraudulent Withdrawals by Illegally Accessing and Selling Information

A Bank of America employee in North Naples, Florida, is accused of illegally accessing customer accounts, resulting in significant financial losses, according to a US banking regulator.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has alleged that Manuel Alejandro Ramirez Perez, who worked as a relationship banker and credit solutions advisor, engaged in unsafe practices and violated laws during his time at BofA.

The OCC claims that between February 2020 and June 2021, Perez accessed customer accounts without proper authorization and sold sensitive data to an unknown individual, resulting in a loss of $65,877.37.

As a result, Bank of America had to reimburse the affected customers for their losses, while Perez reportedly received about $6,900 for selling the stolen data.

Perez did not admit or deny the OCC’s findings, but as a result of his actions, the regulator has banned him from working for any US bank in the future. The OCC also stated that the incident will be on Perez’s record and could be used against him in future proceedings.

The specific acts, omissions, or violations described in Article II may be used by the OCC in future enforcement actions to establish a pattern of misconduct or the continuation of a pattern of misconduct.
