Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, has reportedly enlisted the help of a former Binance adviser for her campaign team. Politico has revealed that David Plouffe, a former political advisor to Barack Obama and a member of Binance’s Global Advisory Board, has been hired by the Harris campaign. An anonymous source familiar with the situation has stated that Plouffe’s role is the most significant among the new hires. However, a campaign official has clarified that Plouffe has been brought on board for a specific role and is not advising the entire campaign.
Harris, who became the Democratic nominee after Joe Biden’s sudden withdrawal from the race, has recently reached out to crypto companies, such as Coinbase, Ripple, and Circle, in an effort to repair the party’s relationship with the crypto world. She has conveyed the message that Democrats now support responsible business practices. However, her attempts to reset the relationship have faced scrutiny from Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, the co-founders of Gemini exchange. Cameron has viewed Harris’s move as a bluff, while Tyler has criticized Democrats for their approach to crypto in the past four years.
In addition, it has been reported that Michigan Senator Gary Peters, who is known for co-sponsoring a bill with Senator Elizabeth Warren to regulate the crypto industry, is being considered as the vice presidential nominee for the Harris campaign. Peters has received a low rating from the digital asset advocacy nonprofit Stand With Crypto due to his stance on money laundering regulations for the crypto industry.
